“ On Thanksgiving day 2024 my granddaughters and I met at Route 40 Diner for breakfast. Best decision for breakfast!!! I was greeted when I walked in and received Very attentive service and throughout the meal. I ordered the special: three pancakes (at least 5" across), three eggs, and three strips of bacon. One granddaughter ordered the western omelette with white toast, and the on the granddaughter ordered chocolate chip pancakes with sausage. Our food was delicious and the serving size plentiful for the price ~$38.00 with tax. If you're in the Bear, DE area stop in to Route 40 Diner for a good meal!! ”
“ Cozy atmosphere and very good service are the main reasons to come here. That, and they are open every day including holidays. The menu is pretty much a standard diner menu. It's about ten pages long and has everything you would expect to find on a diner menu. The food is OK. It's fine. It's diner food, what can I say? But our excellent server, and the cute holiday decor, made it an above average experience. ”
“ Clean and friendly place to dine. Wide selection of items to select from .My friend she had the turkey dinner . Nice amount of turkey dressing Mash potatoes and Lima beans .I had what they called a Philly Steak Regular ste as k covered gravy and salute vegs. with Cole Slaw and baked Mac and cheese .Both meals were great will be back again . ”
“ Pretty much the only diner in Bear, DE and always bustling. Great prices and the food is good! Your only other option for a diner experience is the Friendly's down the road. ”
“ Love this diner, it's a solid 4. Only 1 item have I ever gotten than I did not care for (omelettes are dry, too much filling, bland. Have tried different variations and not my style of omelette. Others with us like them so it's a personal thing) Fried eggs, toast, breakfast meats are great. Make great sandwiches - I love the grouchy waitress sandwich. The waitresses are friendly and there when you need them. Cream Chipped Beef is good and plentiful. The Country Fried Steak is very good, any melt sandwiches are good, salads are good. Growing up in Philly with diners all over this diner is not the best if you're looking for traditional diner food. It's actually the higher end items that they do so well. Club sandwiches are good yet average, Roast Beef or Turkey and Gravy meals are better at other diners in the area. With that said, this is the ONLY diner I'd order Crab Soup or Flounder for example. We buy the cream of crab soup for our Christmas Eve Spread with guests. It's THAT good!! Pea soup was not traditional but darn good. Bottom line, GO. Remove any preconceived notions of diner food, just order. Your belly and wallet will be satisfied! ”
